Excessive Sweating

BOTOX® for Excessive Sweating
Individual results may vary

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, affects approximately 3% of the population, and can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, anxiety-inducing, and disabling for those who suffer from it. Excessive sweating occurs when the body’s mechanism for cooling itself is overactive, causing a person to sweat four to five times more than is normal. Luckily, BOTOX® is a safe and effective way to treat this condition.

How BOTOX® works to prevent excessive sweating

BOTOX® works by blocking the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, and reducing sweat production by glands. It is injected with a tiny needle just underneath the skin. Multiple injections are required to cover the entire area of involvement. Prior to injection a starch iodine test is done to delineate the active sweat glands.
The results may take effect within two weeks and last anywhere between three to twelve months, depending on the individual.
