Lip Filler in Northern Virginia
If you’re unhappy with the lips you were born with or have noticed a change as you’ve aged, lip filler can help. It’s a safe and effective way to augment your lips without surgery or anesthesia. Lip filler can truly enhance your overall appearance.
Why Choose Lip Filler?
Lip filler is a dermal filler that is made especially for the lips. When made of a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid (HA) that closely mimics that which naturally occurs in the body, lip filler is safely absorbed with little to no risk of severe adverse reactions.
There are several benefits of lip filler. This remarkable treatment erases lines and wrinkles around and on the lips, adds volume, and reshapes/resizes your lips. It can even improve facial symmetry.
Lip filler injections stimulate the production of collagen, which is needed for healthy skin. Collagen helps keep your skin firm and plump.
Another advantage is the ability to achieve natural-looking results. This is a treatment that can be done gradually so you don’t look overdone. Your provider will work with you during your consultation to discuss your options and create a customized treatment plan.
How Do I Prepare For Lip Filler?
As with any aesthetic treatment, you should prepare before your appointment. You’ll receive full pre-injection and post-treatment instructions during your lip filler consultation, but there are some things to keep in mind before you book your consultation.
You may be asked to stop taking certain medications or supplements, especially those that thin your blood. If you’re asked to stop taking prescription medication, be sure to get clearance from your prescribing healthcare provider first.
You should also avoid drinking alcohol at least 24 hours before lip filler injections, as alcohol thins the blood. It can also exacerbate bruising after injections, so it’s a good idea to not consume alcoholic beverages after your injections as well.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
Lip filler brands like Juvéderm contain lidocaine to numb the treatment site. If pain during injections is a concern, your provider can also apply a topical numbing cream to numb the area beforehand. While you might feel pressure during your injections, this treatment is typically well tolerated by most patients.
Your provider will administer lip filler injections to make sure you achieve the desired outcome. You can expect this appointment to take around 30 minutes.
This is a safe procedure that does not require downtime for recovery. You should be able to resume your day right after your injections.
Are There Side Effects Associated With Lip Filler?
The two most common side effects associated with lip filler injections are bruising and swelling. You might also experience some redness and itching. These side effects are minor, temporary, and go away within a few days on their own. Your provider will give you tips on how to ease and minimize side effects.
When Will I See Results?
You’ll notice an increase in volume immediately after your injections. However, the product does need a little time to fully integrate into your lip tissue. This process can take up to four weeks, though usually, you achieve the full effect after two weeks.
While healing after injections, there are some things you should be aware of for the best results. Aside from not drinking alcohol, you should avoid drinking through a straw, skip facial massages for at least two weeks, and avoid using any exfoliating products for 24 hours.
After four weeks, you are welcome to see your provider for an assessment. If you feel you’d like more filler, it is now safe to do so.
How Long Does Lip Filler Last?
The longevity of your filler results depends on how quickly your body metabolizes the product, as well as other factors such as the brand used. While everyone is different and results vary, you can expect to enjoy results for six to 12 months.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Lip filler is a safe treatment for all skin types, and it’s a great option for anyone who has volume loss due to aging or wishes to change the size and/or shape of their lips. You’re likely a great candidate if you are in good health, a non-smoker, have realistic expectations about the treatment outcome, and have a commitment to a good skincare regimen.
This treatment is not recommended for anyone who is pregnant or nursing. If you are prone to cold sores, you need to let your provider know, as injections may cause a reaction. Certain medical conditions like uncontrolled diabetes may preclude you from getting fillers.
You will have the opportunity to share your aesthetic goals during your consultation, which also helps determine whether you’re an ideal candidate.
