The world of beauty is so vast that for some it can be hard to actually grasp all the treatments available. There are so many lotions and potions to try, from fixing sagging skin and getting dermal fillers to the multitude of anti aging skin care products on the market; it seems that any problem can be solved when it comes to the beauty industry.
Consider this — 86% of women find that wearing makeup improves their self-image. For many women, makeup can even include nail polish because it enhances their appearance as well! Nail discoloration, as small as it may be, can cause self-confidence issues. But no worries — there are plenty of easy hacks that will help to whiten toenails and yellow fingernails at home! Here are some of our favorite ways to brighten up those nails of yours.
Lemon juice and baking soda
Lemon juice has natural brightening abilities, and when mixed with baking soda you’ll create a powerful paste that will brighten and clean. But just make sure not to do this if you have any cuts near your nail beds, as the acid in the lemon will burn!
If it can work on your teeth, it can work on your nails. Just apply a dab of the toothpaste to damp nails and scrub away with an old toothbrush. Depending on how stained your nails are, this may require a couple treatments.
Prevent the staining from happening in the first place by simply using a base coat when applying nail polish. This will block the color from seeping into your nail bed and as an added bonus it will help your entire manicure last much longer!
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is great for nails that are yellow due to a fungal infection. This natural antiseptic will kill the fungus in its tracks, and all you have to do is drip a few drops of the oil onto a cotton ball and hold it on the nail for a few minutes at a time.
As a reminder, while each of these remedies may work for some people, we are not condoning them as actual medical treatments with guaranteed results.
